Training Mentor on the road

This weekend we headed out to meet some of our valued website members, to catch up on developments in the Training Mentor project, and discuss future developments and feedback. We started our excursion with a trip to Transervice Training in West Bromwich. The training division, headed by Darren Parker, is an off-shoot of the well-established Transervice Express Transport. In a very productive meeting, Darren told us that the linked company allows them to help drivers into employment after they have trained, which is a great offering for someone new to the industry with no experience. Transervice are also involved with government apprenticeships and helping the unemployed to join the industry.

Next, we headed to Shrewsbury to meet Steve Shaw, owner of Shaw’s Driver Training. Steve has been running his training company for just over a year and is one of Training Mentor’s paid subscribers, benefiting from an advanced business listing and enhanced features. He is also one of our most proactive members, with plenty of customer feedback being added to help promote his business. After what felt like a very short sleep, we were up bright and early on Saturday to meet Steve Dulson, director of Dulson Training. We had visited on Dulson’s open day, so it was a good chance to meet a few of their members of staff and see their impressive operation which is spread over four sites around Shrewsbury and Telford, including one with its own test centre. We discussed a variety of matters including apprenticeships, issues within the industry, and future plans for Training Mentor and our mission to improve standards in transport training. The open day was a great success with many people coming to learn about the industry, and for us, the event was a good chance to network. In attendance was Simon Priest, area manager for the RHA (Road Haulage Association) and Liam Smith of Greenhous Group.

All in all, it was a productive trip, and it was great to meet some of our trusted and reputable members face to face. Unfortunately, due to some horrible traffic on Friday, we were unable to make it to a couple of other members as we had hoped, so apologies to Venessa of GTG and Hayley of Go Direct, we will be back soon! For the members were able to visit – Darren, Steve, and Steve – we thank you for your hospitality and look forward to a long and productive working relationship as we improve the transport training industry together.
